Discover the Power of Dermal Fillers at Novel U Wellness

At Novel U Wellness and Med Spa, I believe in a gentle, natural approach to enhancing your beauty. Whether you’re considering dermal fillers to look revitalized for a special event or simply want to maintain a fresh and rested look, this post is for you. We are going to explore dermal fillers, how they work, the most common types, and how I customize treatments in my medical spa to help you shine with confidence.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Popularly known as fillers, these injectable treatments restore lost facial volume, smooth fine lines, and support your natural contours. Most modern fillers are made with hyaluronic acid (HA), a molecule that naturally exists in the skin to attract water and maintain hydration and fullness. Hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers are widely used for cosmetic soft tissue augmentation due to their favorable safety and efficacy profile. At Novel U Wellness, we focus on hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers because of their safety, effectiveness, and versatility.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work in the Body?

When a filler such as Juvederm, Restylane, or the RHA Collection is injected under the skin, it adds immediate volume and smooths wrinkles. The hyaluronic acid then binds to water molecules, enhancing hydration and giving your skin a naturally refreshed appearance. Over time, some of these fillers also stimulate your body’s own collagen-supporting longer-term skin tone and structure.

The Upside of Using Dermal Fillers

Hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers are widely used for cosmetic soft tissue augmentation due to their favorable safety and efficacy profile.

Biocompatibility and low immunogenicity: Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in your body, posing a minimal risk of allergic reactions, so you don’t need skin tests before getting injections.

Reversibility: HA fillers can be quickly broken down by hyaluronidase, which makes it easier to correct any issues like overfilling.

Versatility and efficacy: HA fillers work wonders for adding volume, shaping contours, and smoothing out wrinkles across different facial areas. There is strong historical evidence that supports using dermal fillers in nasolabial folds, and growing data it works well for lips, the glabella (the area between the eyebrows just above the nose, also called “elevenses face”) and even your hands!

Hydration and skin quality improvement: HA helps to draw moisture into the skin and may boost collagen production and can enhance skin texture and elasticity.

Transient and mild adverse events: Most complications, such as swelling or bruising, that may result from using dermal fillers are minor and typically clear up within days or weeks.

The Downside of Using Dermal Fillers

Generally, hyaluronic acid-based fillers are deemed safe and effective for cosmetic purposes. Most side effects tend to be mild and short-lived. Still, rare but serious complications highlight why it’s essential to choose qualified practitioners who prioritize patient safety.

Risk of adverse events: Although most side effects are mild, serious issues like vascular occlusion or tissue damage can happen. These complications are often linked to injection technique or where the filler is placed, especially in sensitive areas like the glabella.

Need for repeat treatments: As noted in our “Upside” list, HA fillers aren’t permanent. Their effects usually last between 6 to 18 months, depending on various factors. So, you’ll need to get them redone to maintain results.

Potential for nodules or granulomas: These aren’t common but may need medical attention if they occur.

Product variability and impurities: Different formulations have varying cross-linking properties and impurities that can affect how well they work and the risk of side effects. This underlines the importance of consulting with your qualified medical professional and creating a personalized plan.

Technique sensitivity: The expertise of your chosen medical professional is a key factor in achieving successful results and in reducing the risk of complications.
Because every treatment is technique-sensitive, my extended training and experience as an internist helps me deliver safe, natural-looking results. I take great care with each procedure so you can feel confident not only in the outcome but also in knowing that your safety is always my priority. Even if you don’t come to see me for your dermal filler treatments, please choose wisely and select a skilled medical professional who will help you look and feel like your best self.
Consultation and Common Treatment Areas
During your initial consultation, I take the time to really listen to your goals and understand what matters most to you. From there, I create a personalized treatment plan that focuses on the areas where fillers can make the biggest difference while still keeping your look natural and refreshed.

Many of my clients at Novel U Wellness choose treatment plans to enhance

⦁ Cheeks to restore youthful volume and create a gentle lift.
⦁ Lips for fullness, shape, and a smile that feels authentically theirs.
⦁ Nasolabial folds to soften the lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth.
⦁ Jawline and chin for subtle definition and balance.

Choosing the right filler for you requires a personalized approach. During our consultation together, I will:
⦁ Evaluate your facial structure and tissue needs.
⦁ Listen to your aesthetic goals-whether that’s subtle volume, sharper definition, or smoothing folds.
⦁ Recommend the product that best matches the area being treated and your desired look

For example, you may benefit from a softer filler in the lips to enhance your smile, and a product like Refyne or Voluma in the cheeks to create contour and support. My goal is always to get natural-looking results. I firmly believe you should always look like yourself at your most refreshed, rested, and radiant.

Approved Hyaluronic Acid Fillers and How They Differ

At Novel U Wellness, we primarily use the following FDA-approved hyaluronic acid fillers:

Juvederm (Ultra, Voluma,Vollure,Volux,Volbella): Smooth and malleable, making these HA filler collections ideal for lips and perioral lines. Additionally, Voluma gives cheeks a deep lift.

Restylane (Silk, Lyft, Refyne, Defyne): A versatile collection offering soft and flexible options (Silk and Refyne) and firmer support (Lyft, Defyne).

RHA Collection: This collection is designed to adapt to the natural movement of your face and is especially good for areas like nasolabial folds and lips.

Each formula has a different viscosity (thickness), cohesiveness (how it stays together as a filler), and longevity. After our initial consultation, I will carefully choose the right dermal filler for you, based on your unique facial anatomy, the thickness of your skin, volume loss, and desired results.

Ideal Timing for Dermal Fillers Before a Big Event

If you’re planning to look your best for a wedding, birthday, graduation, or high school reunion, you’ll want to give yourself a treatment window of at least four to six weeks for the best results, as it allows any mild swelling or bruising to resolve and gives the filler time to settle naturally into place. Also, if you are combining treatments (like dermal fillers with laser or microneedling), plan early. Together, we’ll create a coordinated plan, so you’ll look rested, stress-free and vibrant in time for your Big Event.

The Role of Sculptra in a Natural Treatment Plan

During my Novel U Wellness consultations, my goal is always to create a treatment plan that feels natural, supportive, and true to my patients’ unique beauty. Sometimes that means combining hyaluronic acid fillers with Sculptra. While fillers like Juvederm or Restylane give you that immediate lift and contour, Sculptra works a little differently. Sculptra encourages your own body to rebuild collagen over time. Here’s an example of how I often use Sculptra in a treatment plan:

I use a dermal filler to add instant volume and shape where it is needed.
Then I place Sculptra more deeply in areas of volume loss, where it can gradually strengthen and rebuild your skin’s structure.
Over the next few months, Sculptra gently stimulates collagen, giving you a more refreshed, natural look.

I love this approach because it gives my patients the best of both worlds: a beautiful, immediate result paired with the kind of long-lasting, subtle rejuvenation that only gets better with time.

Ready to Explore Dermal Fillers?

My treatment philosophy is simple: there’s no “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to your beauty and wellness journey. Whether you’re drawn to the immediate boost of fillers, the gentle collagen-building power of Sculptra, or a thoughtful combination of both, my role is to listen to your goals and craft a plan that feels right for you. You deserve results that look natural, last beautifully, and more importantly, make you feel confident and radiant in your own skin.
